One day

One day as I was walking down the dusty road
I met somebody who called himself “to be”
He wore a bemused smile on a face fair and broad
He exuded a strange infectious kind of energy

He said ‘hello’ as if he knew me inside out
Greetings warm enough to melt the arctic ice
They send my head reeling in a string of doubt
For him his smile seemed introduction suffice

Why did you choose this dusty path when
There was a smoother trail to follow
His query angered me at first but then
I realized my reasoning was hollow

Being angry with the world or God for
What was happening in my life did not
Seem justification enough to pour
My frustration out on him – I was caught

In a quagmire whether to return his sunshine smile
Or wallow in self-pity and miss this one chance
To let life take over and pamper me awhile
I chose the latter even as he led me to a merry dance!
